Ralf Salmins - percussion

After leaving college, he soon became in demand as a deputy in many West End shows, while simultaneously working in jazz groups: Bertice Reading, The Brian Dee Trio, Bobby Wellins, Loose Tubes, Annie Whitehead, Tim Whitehead and John Etheridge. Extensive recording work established Ralph as a first-call studio musician, working on countless recordings. In the early 1990's Ralph toured with Lulu, toured and recorded with Everything But The Girl for three years, deputised for Ricky Lawson on a tour with Kirk Whalum, was a member of the original Dankworth Generation Band, Gerard Presencer/Tim Garland Quintet, re-formed Kenny Baker's Dozen and worked extensively with many visiting jazz stars such as Hank Crawford, Herb Ellis, Art Farmer, James Moody, Jimmy Witherspoon, Bobby Watson, Mose Allison and Annie Ross. In 1994, Ralph joined the newly formed Guy Barker International Quintet, with whom he recorded two albums, the first of which was the Mercury Music Prize-nominated 'Into The Blue". At this time he played a concert with The Count Basie Orchestra in London and was subsequently invited back for two tours with the band. Since then Ralph has worked regularly in the groups of Georgie Fame and Van Morrison, with whom he toured for three years and recorded three albums: 'How Long Has This Been Going On?', 'Tell Me Something' and 'The Healing Game' His recent work has included work with Madonna, Bjork, Burt Bacharach, Hamish Stuart, Mike Oldfield, Tom Jones, Tori Amos, George Martin, film director Mike Figgis, Evelyn Glennie, Elton John, Michel Legrand, Dionne Warwick, The London Big Band and Hans Zimmer.
